Every game has its own sets of rules that should be followed
during the game, and the game of volleyball is of no exception. Despite well-defined rules, mistakes are likely to happen, mainly
among beginners.
9 Most Common Mistakes Newbie Players Make In the Volleyball Court
Are you a beginner in the volleyball game? As you are only
learning the mechanics and the details of the game, you may be thinking about
what mistake you should avoid doing in the volleyball court. Making obvious
mistakes while playing the game can have moderate to severe consequences such
as losing points and even losing the match.
1. Numerous Touches
Apart from blocking or during the first team contact, one
should not be making contact with the volleyball twice or more in series.
2. Four Consecutive Hits
It is a violation of rule when a team hits the volleyball repeatedly
4 or more times before they pass the ball back to the opponent.
3. Prolonged Contact
When throwing or catching the volleyball, it is a violation
of the rule if the ball has come to rest as you should let it bounce from the
contact.
4. Approaching the Ball Earlier or Faster
The technique is accurate timing. Approaching the ball far
too quickly than you should either make your hit less likely to be successful
or make it more challenging to pass the ball to your another team member.
5. Not Getting Which Ball Really Falls in Your Line of Responsibility
In most of the cases, beginners are confused which ball is
their responsibility due to multiple factors, including the sharp angle, the
speed, loop, or another team member on your way. For beginners, if the ball is
about to drop on your sixth of the court, it is your responsibility irrespective
of if you are far-off from the ball.
6. Going Under the Volleyball Net and Contact With the Net
If you are playing volleyball in your pool and you have to
jump at the water volleyball net, avoid coming down
with your feet under the volleyball net. Doing this may cause you to lose
points and may put you at risk of hurting your ankle or injuring someone else.
Similarly, there are a set of rules that apply regarding making contact with
the volleyball net and playing the ball near the rival’s space.
7. Not Knowing When to Pass the Ball
More than getting the ball up, you have to learn how and
when to get the ball up while smoothly passing to the right spot. When passing,
it shouldn’t be too low or too high.
8. The Server Foot Fault
When serving the ball, you should not step on the floor or the
court line outside the serving zone.
